World Day for War Orphans

January 6

World Day for War Orphans is observed every January 6 to remind us of the impact of war on children who have lost their parents. This day raises awareness and encourages everyone to advocate for the affected youth. Most importantly, we must work towards peace to prevent further suffering among children affected by conflict.

1994: The French organization SOS Enfants en Detresses first proposed commemorating a day for war orphans.

1995: The first World Day for War Orphans was observed on January 6, following the initiative by SOS Enfants en Detresses.

2006: The United Nations officially recognized World Day for War Orphans on January 6, 2006.

This day was created to bring awareness to the millions of children affected by wars, natural disasters, poverty, and other atrocities.
